COMS Meeting Minutes

The NIH Office of Science Policy (OSP) has issued updated guidance pertaining to IBC meeting minutes (3/28/25) requiring public posting of minutes as of June 1, 2025.

In addition to the NIH Guidelines (Section IV-B-2-b) describing the meeting minutes oversight responsibilities, local public health authorities (i.e., Boston and Cambridge Public Health Commissions) require the maintenance and provision of IBC minutes for biological laboratory permitting. 

The Committee on Microbiological Safety (COMS), in consultation with the Institutional Biosafety Office, HMS Office of Academic and Research Integrity, Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Office of General Counsel, shall review and respond to all written public comments/inquiries received in response to public review of meeting minutes in a manner that is consistent with COMS’ redaction policy.
